"This report contains many important re-assertions of EU commitments to human rights in the world. Specifically I welcome the call to stand with human rights defenders around the world, who promote freedom of expression and human dignity in the face of adversity, and are often punished, imprisoned, tortured, or even killed. I would like to express my solidarity with their struggles, and commit to support them where I can. As well as the well-known cases of Nabeel Rajab and Raif Badawi, dozens of others could benefit from EU support, and I will continue my work with international civil society, activists, and international organisations in order to add my voice. I also welcome the report’s call to mainstream gender into all of the EU’s external actions, and into all of its work on human rights. This must come in the context of a robust EU strategy on gender equality. The Commission must demonstrate its seriousness on gender equality through clear action."@en1
