"The euro area recommendations proposed are balanced instruments. The euro area needs to get back on track economically, that means not just focusing on some deficiencies of some smaller southern Member States, but also on larger ones where the domestic demand needs to be stimulated. I recognise that labour markets need reform, but it has to be the right kind. It should be easier to hire people, not to fire. The priority has to be to reduce unemployment, and provide people with proper contracts and social protection instead of zero hour contracts. Another critical point to address is the amount of non-performing loans, in the Eurozone (but also beyond). More than EUR 826 billion of non-performing loans are hanging as a sword of Damocles over our banking sector. This needs to be tackled urgently."@en1
