"Mr President, the recent discovery of yet another mass grave linked to the Srebrenica massacre serves as a stark reminder of the sheer savagery of the Bosnian War. While the Dayton Agreement deserves praise as an example of post-conflict peace-building, it provided a template that led to the formation of a dysfunctional state mired by a culture of segregation and patronage. Endless internal bickering has hamstrung essential reforms, while young Bosnians lack the employment opportunities they desperately need.
In the United Kingdom, legislation like we see in Bosnia that discriminates against anyone on the basis of ethnicity and religion is unthinkable. In the interests of their people, I urge Bosnia’s leaders to move forward and put Dayton’s constitutional legacy behind them."@en1
