"Mr. President, the Dayton Accords must not be ignored in the name of political ambition. Humanity has a duty to ensure that they remain a tragic reminder of the fragility of the futile situation that led to the Balkans War and a return of war crimes in the European backyard, just 47 years after the liberation of Auschwitz. Fortunately, NATO and the United Nations – organisations tasked with maintaining peace since 1945 – cooperated to restore stability. Regrettably the potential causes of conflict remain, so we must respect the internal political structure of both Bosnia and Herzegovina based on two internal republics separated, unfortunately, along ethnic lines. I fear that further EU influence and expansion into the Balkans risks unsettling this particularly fragile situation."@en1
