"As this year marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the EU and China, this own initiative report, which I voted in favour of, was produced to acknowledge the progress made over the last four decades and to highlight several areas of moderate and deep concern. In particular it reinforced several concerns on human rights, freedom of expression and environmental issues.
Furthermore, I was happy to see the introduction of several other important issues in the report, including the need to build a greater and consequent cooperation on trade focused on SMEs between both blocks, the legitimate concern on the unilateral establishment of an air-defence identification zone and the consequent claim over navigational air control within areas claimed by Japan and South Korea."@en1
