"I voted in favour of this motion for resolution objecting to the draft Commission implementing regulation adopting a list of invasive alien species. The regulation deals with the prevention and management of the introduction and spread of invasive alien species. However, I believe, as stated in the resolution, that the draft Union list fails to adequately address the problem of invasive alien species in a comprehensive manner, with many of the most problematic invasive species not listed while others without significant impacts are. In order to protect native biodiversity and ecosystem services and minimise the human health and economic impacts that these invasive species could potentially have, it is crucial that the list ensures those with the most significant adverse impacts are listed. An example from my own constituency of an invasive species which is not listed is the Asian Clam, which is depleting the Irish Pollan, a freshwater whitefish protected under the Habitats Directive."@en1
