"I was very pleased to support this application for almost half a million euro of European Globalisation Fund (EGF) assistance for workers made redundant from PWA International (PWAI). The application concerns 108 workers working in the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul sector and a related supplier, between mid-2014 and September of this year. In addition to these workers 108 young people not in employment, education or training will also benefit from the fund, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 216. The total budget for services to assist the redundant workers in upskilling or retraining to return to work is EUR 737 156, with a 60% contribution from the EGF of EUR 442 293. This has been a most beleaguered sector over recent years with the closures of Lufthansa Technik and SR Technics at Dublin Airport but we have seen real positive outcomes from assistance from the EGF programme for SR Technics with 53.45% of beneficiaries back in employment almost a year after the programme finished. The PWAI workers have a similar very specific skill set and I hope will have just as positive an outcome from EGF assistance."@en1
