"Madam President, there is no crisis too grave, there is no situation too terrible and there is no level of human suffering too great for the European Union not to see another opportunity to extend its powers. In its usual convoluted and contradictory language which we heard earlier, the European Union sets out its response to the next opportunity.
So the Commission wants to deploy personnel from a new Border and Coast Guard Agency without, as currently required, the consent of the state concerned. Well I do not know how others might feel, but I do not like the idea of forces sent unbidden into a Member State to defend a common European frontier. Now what the European Union Commission obviously wants to do is a little bit more of what it is used to doing, which is to spend more taxpayers’ money, create another European Union institution and expand and extend its power base.
I do hope that European Union Member States’ citizens will see this for what it is, which is ceding border enforcement to an unanswerable, probably armed, but also unaccountable European Union body. I hope, like me, they do not want that. Do they really think it will help the situation? I do not believe it will. Will it assist European Union expansion? Well of course it will. And will it resolve the causative European Union factors behind all of this? No it will not. We will get Brexit in the UK very soon and we will be able to make our point known and it will be: walk away from this."@en1
