"I was pleased to support this application for assistance for EUR 4 372 000 from the EGF for some 1 603 workers made redundant from the computer programming and consultancy sector across the autumn of 2014 and spring of 2015. The redundancies concerned 69 enterprises with almost half of them occurring in Microsoft Mobile. The ICT sector, while growing globally, has been badly affected by globalisation across the EU and particularly in Finland where in 2008, the technology industry employed a total of 326 000 people but the number of people employed by such companies in 2014 was 276 000 equalling an average decline of about 3% or 10 000 workers annually. The previous decisions of Nokia and Microsoft towards offshoring, closing down production and stopping development work in Finland has had a significant impact on downstream providers and the Finnish software industry in general. The assistance will go towards providing the redundant workers with job-seeking training, individual job coaching, vocational re-education and training in sectors with high employment and start-up grants and the promotion of entrepreneurship among other supports."@en1
