"I was pleased to support this report on the EU Strategic Framework on Health and Safety at Work 2014-2020, which is a follow-up to the Commission Communication of last year. Although this is an area already heavily regulated by national and European legislation, more than 4 000 EU workers die due to accidents at work every year and those suffering from work-related diseases amount to more than 150 000 annually. We need a simplified framework that protects workers while keeping abreast of new and emerging risks and allows employers, particularly SMEs, to easily implement and enforce its provisions. I was pleased to support in particular provisions which called on the Commission to consider submitting a proposal for a legal act to combat harassment and violence at work, and on Member States to fully implement the Working Time Directive, and for employers and policymakers to ensure and facilitate a sound work-life balance in relation to domestic work and employees who also have care responsibilities in their private life."@en1
