"I supported this report which sets out Parliament’s main priorities and recommendations on the issue of countering radicalisation leading to violent extremism. Following the tragic attacks in Paris both this month and at the beginning of the year it is apparent that almost all the perpetrators were home-grown and both the EU and Member States must do all they can to fight the radicalisation of our citizens and threats to our internal security with a coordinated and cross border approach. The key word here is prevention and we must fight radicalisation with proactive measures such as close cooperation between law enforcement agencies, effective management of our external borders and targeted cooperation with third countries, inter-cultural dialogue, the role of the religious community in countering fundamentalism, hate speech and terrorist propaganda, and through the education of social and civic values to prevent marginalisation. It is important to remember that respect of fundamental rights must always be to the fore and to avoid stigmatisation of any particular community whether they are Muslims, refugees or migrants."@en1
