"The Irish EPP Delegation regrettably voted against this report. While there are many positive aspects in this report, overall we believe that Parliament has gone beyond its mandate in relation to tax matters in this instance. Taxation is a national competence and this is clearly not respected in the report. Member States should have full power to set their corporate tax rates and the consolidation of corporation taxes across the EU is clearly a form of tax rate harmonisation. The EU’s competence on tax matters is to ensure that corporate tax systems are fair and transparent; if these conditions are fulfilled, tax competition should be considered a positive thing for Europe."@en1
