"Madam President, this taxation committee arose out of the Lux Leaks scandal, which has established that President Juncker was in government when corporations gamed the system to a huge extent. Instead of censure of politicians like Mr Juncker, who were involved in allowing corporations to extract exceedingly large profits from the ordinary citizens of Europe, the EU has done what it normally does: it has created a sneaky trick to get ever closer union on taxation through the front door, rather than the back door, for a single EU tax policy. Here I agree with Mr Fox from the Conservative Party. We oppose tax evasion and aggressive tax avoidance, but we believe tax competition is positive. As Winston Churchill once said, we ‘contend that for a nation trying to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle’. This is the policy of the Labour Party as exposed by Ms Dodds on the other side."@en1
