"I voted in favour of the Cohesion Policy and Marginalised Communities report as I believe cohesion policy is a powerful tool in tackling the existing problems of marginalised communities. While the inclusion of marginalised communities mostly depends on the strong political will of local and national authorities on the ground, the EU cohesion policy remains one of the strongest instruments with which the EU can fight different types of marginalisation inside Member States and support territorial and social cohesion in EU regions. The existing problems of unemployment, absence of social security, difficult housing situations and lack of public health services, just to name a few, continue to be faced by many municipalities alongside with the severe budgetary constraints which prevent them from dealing adequately with marginalisation in society. In the past, EU structural funds have not always taken full account of these communities. The current 2014-2020 cohesion framework puts forward new measures with the scope of improving the situation of such groups, including investment priority targeting marginalised communities."@en1
