"Cohesion policy is one of the strongest instruments the European Union has to fight inequality. This report builds on that, by looking specifically at how the cohesion policy can assist in empowering marginalised communities.
Although there is no uniform EU definition of marginalised communities, my Sinn Féin colleague Martina Anderson from the Regional Development Committee ensured that the report acknowledged that people in cross-border, rural and isolated areas are often subject to marginalisation due to their geographical situation and should be better taken into consideration by the cohesion policy.
The report also acknowledges the needs of women, people with disabilities, migrants, Roma and Travellers, and highlights the importance of an integrated, grass-roots, community-led and inclusive approach to solving the problems faced by these communities."@en1
