"I voted in favour of this report because child poverty remains a key problem in Wales and the UK more generally as 28 per cent of children across the country grow up in relative poverty. However, this problem exists across the EU and needs to be tackled. I therefore welcome a report at a European level, particularly as the Tories continue to maintain a situation where poverty needlessly affects young people across the UK. Labour MEPs have always championed a better quality of life for all, but especially for the most vulnerable in society our society. Children need to grow up in an environment where they are giving a decent chance in life. This report calls for a real commitment from Member States to tackle the factors which are causing child poverty and increase the scope of social support for children. It promotes labour laws that guarantee – amongst other things – a statutory adequate minimum wage and collective agreement, which will provide greater security for families and fight precarious employment."@en1
