"This is a vital directive that I support wholeheartedly. I support it because it ensures consumers understand the risks, costs and features of all insurance products. It is vital that those taking out products of this nature are aware of all of the relevant information to allow them to make an informed decision that is suitable for them. Those selling insurance will also be required to have relevant knowledge and competence. This is a vital protection not only for the consumer, but for the industry, to ensure that the industry and those it employs are not brought into disrepute by those who would exploit the vulnerable. By ending the fragmented insurance rules across Europe it should also help foster cross-border sales and build on the single market and facilitate transnational trade and co-operation within the European Union."@en1
