"I voted in favour of the revised Insurance Mediation Directive (IMD2). This proposal addresses cross-sectoral inconsistencies which, when combined with a low level of cross-border purchasing, are detrimental to consumers. In comparison to IMD1, the new rules clearly reinforce consumer protection. Of particular use to the everyday consumer is the fact that the directive clarifies tying practices, so when insurance products are purchased together with goods, the consumer must be informed about the prices of all the individual components and must be offered the opportunity to buy the products separately.
From a seller’s perspective, the proposal differentiates between the various selling channels for insurance products and therefore imposes a less burdensome registration and professional qualification requirement on those selling simple insurance products.
Overall, this proposal aims to ensure a level playing field for all those involved in selling insurance products and to improve policyholder advice, transparency and protection."@en1
