"A Uachtaráin, d’éisteas leis an díospóireacht. Bhaineas an-taitneamh as agus d’fhoglaim mé mórán uaidh. Dá bhrí sin ba mhaith liom trí phointe a lua anois.
Firstly, unfair practices in third countries as referred to by the Commissioner: obviously this is something that needs to be tackled at a global level, because our aviation industry deserves a level playing field.
Secondly, the carbon footprint has been referred to, and obviously that is a worry because it is huge, and the Commissioner referred to having powerful regulatory tools to limit CO2 emissions, but also, as one of those representing Parliament in COP21 in Paris, I hope that both the aviation and maritime industries can be included in a global agreement, which we hope we will be able to reach there.
Thirdly, the competitiveness of the airline industries in Europe was referred to. Ryanair is an Irish airline which is highly successful, its market share is growing, its stock is generally improving and recently it promised the Irish Government that if it got rid of the travel tax it would increase passenger numbers by a million – which it did. A huge boost to the tourist industry in Ireland."@en1
