"The UK Conservative delegation voted against this report for a number of reasons. Firstly, we refuse to lend our voice to calls in this report for a single European Agency for Tourism, or for an increased EU budget for tourism in the next Multiannual financial Framework – which we fear would undermine efforts to restrain spending at EU level. Secondly, we cannot support the driving philosophy of this report: giving the Commission more powers to market Europe as a single entity under a Commission-led brand ‘Destination Europe’ – which would risk undermining existing successful campaigns at national level. Finally, whilst we support high quality standards in holiday accommodation across the EU, we believe it is up to the relevant Member State authorities, which already possess the required powers, to ensure that these standards remain high and that hotel and hostel owners are in full compliance with health and safety legislation."@en1
