"The European Semester is a powerful tool for making European policy more effective, but it must include strong social and sustainability pillars, and prioritise social inclusion. The Semester must strengthen Social Europe, not weaken it. The reforms included in CSRs must not amount simply to more austerity, or reduction in social protections, public services or workers’ rights. Social impact assessments must be carried out, and CSRs must aim to achieve smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. It is also important to remember that austerity and the economic crisis have had a disproportionate impact on women. The Commission and Member States must include a gender perspective in policy-making when laying out and implementing CSRs."@en1
