"Madam President, tourism is a vital industry. In my constituency of Wales alone it generates some 4.5 billion a year for the economy and supports nearly 89 000 full-time jobs. The industry, as we know, has huge potential and, developed correctly and responsibly, could provide many long-term benefits to communities right across the European Union. The Greens/European Free Alliance Group welcomes the comprehensive nature of this report and thanks the rapporteur, Isabella De Monte, for her collaborative work. The report recognises the importance of cultural heritage in that all of our different languages can themselves be a driving force for good-quality tourism. Also important is the inclusion of climate change and the urgent need to act on this, particularly for coastal, island, and mountainous areas. For us too, it was vital that the call for accessibility for people with reduced mobility was included. However, my group cannot support the language used in reference to the refugee crisis, which fails to recognise the dire circumstances of asylum seekers coming to Europe and their need for support and for solidarity."@en1
