"Madam President, from my own observations I have become more and more against the change of time in recent years, because I see that it brings in the winter overnight and stops the onset of spring by at least a month. But coming in here this morning, I am delighted to hear cases being put forward by my colleagues and the impact it actually has on citizens and on agriculture, costs and energy. Mr Becker referred to 48% more accidents and disturbed sleep patterns for children. Surely the case is clear, and all it takes is for a directive from the Commission. It would cost nothing, and I am quite sure citizens would be delighted. Once again we would be able to show citizens that we can act in their interest. If Russia did it, why can we not do it? Or are we afraid to say maybe that Russia was right and we were too slow to follow them? In this instance, they were right and we should introduce to change as soon as possible because we do not want winter coming in overnight anymore and we want spring to come in its natural order."@en1
