"Amending Directive 2003/35/EC could be an important step towards reducing national emissions of certain atmospheric pollutants. There were, however, some issues with the aspects of the proposed approach that we in the S&D Group attempted to address. However, that should not detract from the fact that, while overall the progress in tackling air pollution has been good, there is still a lot of work to be done to ensure that air quality in Europe improves. This is crucial, as our levels of air pollution are central to our long-term ecological wellbeing, and low levels of air pollution are also vital to our day-to-day health. We would not tolerate contamination of our water: it makes no more sense to tolerate the contamination of our air."@en1
