"Air pollution causes 50 000 premature deaths across the UK and 700 000 across the EU in total every year. Its economic cost for health is estimated at between EUR 300 billion and EUR 900 billion on an annual basis. That is why I voted to set ambitious measures to cut toxic emissions that contribute to air pollution. Proper results can only be achieved if the agriculture sector plays its part, just as the car industry, following the emissions test scandal. Thousands of deaths are attributable to ammonia from farms, and the setting of limits on agricultural emissions is both necessary and fair."@en1
