The rapporteur failed to ensure that the final text of the draft regulation includes sufficiently strong provisions for protection of public health and consumer interest. I do not agree with playing down the importance of the precautionary principle, especially with regard to the application of new technologies used in food production. Furthermore, the draft regulation opens the door for food derived from cloned animals or their offspring, despite the strong opposition from Parliament evident in its vote at the September plenary."@en1
