"Madam President, when even the rapporteur is highly critical of his proposal, then – to use a parody – ‘Houston, we have a problem’. Well, fellow MEPs, we have a serious problem. Even the rapporteur cannot sell this proposal to us. Just consider a selection of his comments: ‘it shows a deep contempt for taxpayers’ money’; ‘no sense for the European Union to increase spending so frivolously’; ‘this legislative initiative clearly lacks transparency, both internally and externally’; ‘there has not even been a cost-benefit analysis or any impact assessment’. He ends by calling for rejection of the proposal. The rapporteur’s comments are robust, justified, and should be followed. Rejection is the only course of action and this Chamber should follow his recommendations, otherwise why in the hell do we have rapporteurs?"@en1
