"It is with some regrets that I voted against this resolution, as it contains many strong points criticising the industry. I did not vote against because I think it is acceptable for car manufacturers to effectively perpetrate fraud not only with regard to those who buy their products thinking they are doing something to reduce harmful emissions, but to society as a whole, which bears the costs of those emissions. I voted against because I think it entirely wrong that the majority of this House chose to endorse the PPE amendment supporting diesel technology. Ironic indeed, when we will vote on air quality standards tomorrow – knowing that diesel fuel has adverse health effects and that we need to move away this fuel. How can I tell the Mayor of London to clean up our air and then support diesel cars as a way forward? We don't solve one pollution problem by fuelling another."@en1
