"I voted in favour of this report because we cannot tolerate intentional criminal behaviour from the side of any company, no matter the size. It not only breaks public trust and undermines the quality of European products, but it also causes significant health damage to the European population. That is why I call for the introduction of a real driving emissions test to be implemented by 2017 for all vehicles to ensure that new cars on EU roads finally meet the Euro 6 limits and the establishment of an independent EU Type Approval Authority that would oversee testing. Furthermore, workers should not pay for the mistakes of the executives and every precautionary measure should be taken to guarantee that no jobs will be lost. The scandal should be seen as an opportunity for the European car industry to invest into more targeted R&D so as to move faster towards our next step which is the electrification of the European car fleet."@en1
