"Air pollution by emission is becoming a serious threat to EU citizens’ health, causing 430 000 premature deaths every year. The report notes that transport continues to contribute to poor air quality in urban areas and 20 Member States are currently not meeting the EU air quality limits. An investigation into vehicle emissions test manipulation is welcomed and extensive checks should be conducted by the relevant national authorities. The Commission should put in place a new Real Driving Emissions test cycle as soon as practicable. These measures will strive to protect the wellbeing of EU citizens who are currently at risk of contracting diseases due to overexposure. This measure will also work to create additional protection for the environment, aiming to regulate emissions."@en1
