"As Labour MEPs we believe that investment in basic healthcare is a vital pillar of development. The Ebola crisis has exposed this dramatically in West Africa, with a terrible toll on their societies. The countries affected by this crisis need investment to build their own healthcare systems. The Ebola crisis has both highlighted the structural problems that are still to be found in a number of countries and served as a reminder to EU leaders of the need to provide assistance in the development of basic social services, with the priority going to healthcare. Labour MEPs are fully behind the call for universal health coverage, which is achievable as part of the new Sustainable Development Goals adopted by world leaders in New York in September. The framework has been set and now we need the action to achieve the right to health care for all."@en1
