"I am happy to vote in favour of this report. It is important that we make sure that we strengthen EU protections against the trade in certain goods that can be used in torture and capital punishment. These activities go against the ideals of the European Union and while we cannot force non-member states to reject them, we can do all we can to ensure that Europe is not aiding and abetting states that which to carry out these acts. Furthermore, European companies must be prevented from profiteering on the back of the policies of these states and in particular I welcome the new measures that will improve the speed and efficiency of our reactions to any such transactions. I stand by my belief that the death penalty is wrong and this is a step towards ensuring that this practice is phased out globally."@en1
