"I support the rapporteur as I believe it is a fair and balanced outcome following long discussions between the EU institutions that will ensure equal treatment of internet traffic and allow innovation to flourish. The principle of net neutrality will be preserved. Internet service providers will be required to treat all traffic equally when providing internet access services, without discrimination, restriction or interference, irrespective of the sender and receiver, the content accessed or distributed, or the applications or services used. Certain provisions are made for services requiring a specific level of quality, but this is on the condition that they do not interfere with the open internet and are not to the detriment of the availability or general quality of internet access services for end users. Some traffic management is necessary in order to allow information to flow freely, rather on the technical quality of the service. Providers of internet access services should inform end-users in a clear manner on how the traffic management practices may influence the quality of the internet access service, end-users’ privacy and the protection of personal data. Additionally providers should inform end users of the speed normally available and the remedies in case of non-compliance."@en1
