"I fully support this report, a report that significantly updates and subsequently reaffirms basic protection for consumers when booking a series of travel services.
In an increasingly digital age, it is imperative that we address the imbalance in protections and regulatory requirements between online and more traditional modes of transaction. Only once this is achieved can we move towards an increased single market in this sector and facilitate greater and more efficient levels of cross-border selling and buying.
Improvements to the rules applying to national schemes of insolvency protection are also a welcome development in addition to the proposed deregulation in respect of business-to-business sales.
When combined, this report will contribute to a more clearly defined and further-reaching package travel directive. It is for these reasons that I voted in favour of the Council’s position."@en1
