"I was happy to vote in favour of this approval of the Committee draft proposal. In our globalised age organised crime has no respect for borders. They reach out in networks that span the whole of Europe. Terrorist groups also liaise and transfer ideas transnationally as never before. Therefore, the nations of Europe need to work together to solve these problems more closely than before and share data properly. However, considering this we must beware of mission creep and the possibility of the undermining of civil liberties, therefore it is important that the mandate laid out in this proposal is not stretched and is adhered to in both letter and spirit. Furthermore, any changes must be brought before Parliament. We guard against threats, without becoming our own jailers and losing the way of life we are fighting for."@en1
