"Mr President, the UK referendum was initially due to be the key item on the Council agenda. Now it only merits one sentence in the Draft Declaration. I realise that is due to the pressing refugee crisis, but there is also frustration at the lack of detail from the UK Government. To use Mr Juncker’s analogy, David Cameron seems like a dad at the school disco reluctantly trying to dance but an embarrassment to everyone – and that embarrassment is shared by many Brits. Cameron has taken many months to provide any inkling of his demands. Some of what he suggests is sensible and in line with what the Labour Party has been arguing for for many years, but he has been ambiguous in other areas, not least when it comes to workers’ rights. That is despite the fact that guaranteed holiday and controlled working hours are one of the key reasons why many British people support staying in the EU. So I want to ask the representatives of both the Council and the Commission: please, if David Cameron threatens working rights, make clear to him the damage this would cause to support for the EU. We need EU reform, but reform that works for the British people, not just the interests of David Cameron in managing his own political party."@en1
