"I strongly supported this resolution stating that the European Parliament believes the conclusions of the evaluation of the EU Plan of Action on Gender Equality (GAP I) show a clear need for a step-change in EU action on gender equality and women’s empowerment. At present, 62 million girls in the world do not attend school. One in three women worldwide will be a victim of sexual or physical violence in her lifetime. It is essential that the Union takes every possible action to promote gender equality, both intra-Union and internationally. Closing the gender gap on a global scale must be a priority."@en1
