"I voted in favour of this report, given its importance in terms of securing access to justice more efficiently across the EU. It will do this by increasing the threshold of what is considered a ‘small claim’ to EUR 5 000, with a five-year review clause in order to see whether a further increase is possible; encouraging the use of long-distance communication and video-conferencing for hearings; establishing a five-year review clause in order to assess the possibility of including labour claims in the scope of the regulation; making court fees proportionate to the claim; and providing for free of charge assistance for the use of the procedure. It is to be noted that this will not affect the current legal status in the UK, where the threshold for application is higher than the EUR 5 000 set out in the directive."@en1
