They also represent an important framework in the fight against extreme poverty, inequality and injustice. Local authorities represent an important partner in meeting these targets. By empowering, not emaciating local authorities in developing countries to ensure accountability and transparency, and provide the basic social services and infrastructure needed to ensure a decent life for all must play a role in this agenda. By delivering aid as closely to the people who need as possible we can empower communities. This report represents a step in the right direction and therefore I have supported it."@en1
