"Along with my colleagues in the European Parliamentary Labour Party I voted in favour of this report as it will protect both industries producing authentic local goods and consumers. It will make it harder for factories to pass off cheap knock-offs in the place of much-loved originals.
Great British products like traditional Cumberland Sausages and Beacon Fell traditional Lancashire cheese are already protected under a geographical protection scheme and this Report would seek to extend protection like this to non-agricultural products. This means Scottish tartan, West Midlands ceramics and Clipsham limestone would be able to apply for similar geographical protection which would then be recognised across the EU."@en1
