"Madam President, I would like to congratulate Virginie Rozière on a fantastic result, and 608 votes in this Parliament have backed the principle of extending geographical indication to non-food products. I represent Scotland in this Parliament and it is absolutely important for some of our most peripheral areas in the European Union that products like Harris tweed and Scottish tartan have this extension of protection. We live in a more globalised world where there are more challenges in terms of property rights and ownership. I think that we all can be very grateful to Virginie Rozière’s report for what we have done today as a Parliament, but also to the fact that the majority – the vast majority of people in this Chamber – backed the extension of geographical indication to non-agricultural products. The challenge now is: what will the Commission come forward with and what will the Council support? So now the pressure is on the Commission and the Member States to take forward what we have done today."@en1
