"I voted in favour of this resolution as it calls for increased efforts and funding to assist areas of Greece and Bulgaria that were adversely impacted by severe climatic conditions in early 2015.
Due to these situations the governments of these countries applied to the European Solidarity Fund. EUR 16 274 765 will be mobilised under the European Solidarity Fund to cover the cost of recovery operations in both countries, as both cases match the European Solidarity Fund’s criteria.
Bulgaria was adversely affected by severe winter weather which included heavy rainfall, snow, floods and landslides. Immense damage was done to public infrastructure, communication and transport networks, enterprise and residential areas, not to mention the agricultural sector and forests.
In Greece there was a similar situation with major flooding and consequently significant damage to infrastructure, especially water supplies and sewage systems, public buildings, residential areas and businesses. The impact on Greek agriculture saw the destruction of farming infrastructure, warehouses and crops.
The report garnered the support of 95 % of MEPs without any amendments or objections being made. The aid will reimburse expenses incurred in recovery and reinforcement works after the natural disasters."@en1
