"Mr President, I was very pleased to support this very constructive and all-encompassing report – indeed, a very wide-ranging report – on matching skills and qualifications with demand and job opportunities.
The report contains all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle that are necessary to match skills and jobs. We need to foster a competitive labour market. We need to anticipate future skills needs. We need to strengthen the connection between education and employment. We need to foster fair mobility, and we need to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit. Finally, crucially, we need to support SMEs and micro-enterprises by enshrining the ‘think small first’ principle in our law making.
I was particularly pleased to see that the Parliament voted in favour of that today. As a cross-cutting issue, this report also states that we need to support disadvantaged groups, marginalised groups, be these people with disabilities or younger or older workers, to access decent work."@en1
