"I, and Labour MEPs, voted for this report for a simple reason: women and girls have a right to an education. This report makes it clear that education, as a major aspect of socialisation, radically affects our perception of women and girls. Not only do schools play a part in the shaping of our perception of gender, but also contribute massively to attitudes, behaviour, choices and ambitions. If we are to empower girls to achieve their true potential, we must create the appropriate learning environments where attitudes towards gender are firmly challenged – from stereotypes to discrimination. All children must be able to thrive. The need to tackle these inequalities is an urgent one. We must present practical solutions to deal with the very real problems women and girls are facing."@en1
