"I voted in favour of this report as it highlights how far we still have to go to break through the glass ceilings in science and academia. It makes a number of very important recommendations which will ensure that women are able to play their full role in science, research and higher education. Particularly in STEM fields, we face a projected skills shortfall which will only be averted if we act now to empower more women to pursue their careers without disadvantage. We must ensure that women and men are able to balance their work and family lives and that gender biases are eliminated at all stages of recruitment, training and appraisals. This is also an area where cooperation at the European level is vital to share knowledge, best practices and resources amongst institutions and Member States."@en1
