"Mr President, it should come as no surprise that the Chair of this Parliament’s Delegation to the Palestinian Legislative Council is leading this latest political stunt. This disingenuous proposal is but another unilateral attempt to recognise Palestinian statehood contrary to international law and contrary to reality. A two-state solution can only derive of bilateral negotiations between Israel and Palestinian representatives. This is enshrined in the Oslo Accords and several UN resolutions. No worthless name change can change that fact. Therefore, because we in Northern Ireland are used to Sinn Fein attempting to rewrite the history of the IRA’s terrorist past, it comes as no shock that they are also aiming to reshape reality in Europe on this issue. Don’t be fooled. Like in Northern Ireland, the end of terrorism must be a precursor to talks in the Middle East scenario. Hamas must stop their reign of terror if the situation is to move forward. And this is the primary message that the European Parliament must send."@en1
