"Mr President, we heard Commission President Juncker this morning mentioning the kind people at Munich station and the kind people on the Greek islands. Commissioner Avramopoulos, you are Greek, and you really did your job this morning: we heard all about the plans. And we will see kind people, as Ska Keller said, all over Europe – in my Member State and elsewhere. However, they are asking a very simple question: what is the European Union doing? My answer to that is that the European Union is the Member States, and the Member States, which are meeting on Monday – with a Presidency that has a great sense of urgency – must understand that the plans which were presented today are credible and clear, and whatever anyone says from across the political spectrum in this House, Parliament has done its work on relocation fast and efficiently. We have done our work, but what will happen on Monday? Will we see opt-outs? Will we see dilution? Will we see the blame game on Monday? Or will we see a reaction to the biggest refugee crisis since the Second World War? The European Union is its Member States and it is its people. Let us not fail the refugees or the people of the European Union on 14 September."@en1
