"I recognise the issues impacting an ageing population, and the need to plan for that. Nevertheless, this debate refers to the year 2012 and is somewhat out of date. This matter was debated fully (at least by the standards of this Chamber). I am astonished that a Citizens’ Initiative signed by 1.9 million people is afforded no debate time and catch-the-eye only, whilst this report receives a full debate. We need to recall that citizens should always be a priority. On the matter at hand, medical training within the member states is vital. Importing medical professionals, often from developing countries, leads to considerable lack of resources in those countries. We need to step up efforts to train more home-grown medical professionals."@en1
