"I voted against this non—legislative report because it seeks to use cultural heritage to further the EU´s goals. For example, it states that cultural heritage promotes European culture and values, that European culture is important for European identity, and also supports a common European cultural heritage and strengthening of community in the EU. It also looks to influence national education policy, where the EU has absolutely no competence. Only elected and accountable national governments have the right to decide how to spend taxpayers’ money, create culture policy and change education policy, not unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats in Brussels."@en1
