"I supported the report on this important topic - youth entrepreneurship through education and training. Although youth unemployment is decreasing slowly, with almost 5 million young people still unemployed through the EU the Commission and Member States must continue to act to combat this situation. It was welcome that we recently voted to speed up the provision of YEI funds to Member States but we can do more. One way to do this is by promoting the opportunities for young entrepreneurs to benefit both themselves and society generally. I welcome the report´s call for Member States to ensure quality traineeships to promote entrepreneurial skills and that practical entrepreneurial skills should be taught at all levels of education including higher education. I was also very pleased to see the acknowledgement that informal and independent learning, including volunteering, can help young people develop entrepreneurial spirit and skills and this should be recognised. Finally I supported the call for the Commission to support partnerships between educational institutions and companies via the use of EFSI and in particular, the European Social Fund, to encourage work-based learning in companies and foster entrepreneurship competences at national and local level."@en1
